I began making this deodorant for myself after reading about the potential health risks associated with long-term use of aluminum based antiperspirants. I checked the label of the deodorant I had been using and sure enough, the ingredient list included aluminum, propylene glycol, and a whole bunch of other things I couldn’t pronounce and definitely didn’t want near my precious pits!
This aluminum-free deodorant utilizes arrowroot powder and sodium bicarb (baking soda) to absorb odor and wetness. Organic Tea Tree oil, Apple Cider Vinegar, and Witch Hazel are added for their antibacterial properties. Skin nourishing ingredients like organic unrefined shea butter, sweet almond oil, and organic coconut oil keep skin smooth and hydrated (because pits need love too!). Mango butter and aloe vera gel are also added, among other ingredients, to soothe irritated skin.
Deodorant should be stored in a cool, dry place, as the coconut oil in the stick will liquify at 76 degrees F. If the stick melts, just pop it into the fridge for a few hours, and all should be well again 🙂
I have found that when switching from a “commercial” deodorant to a natural one, it is helpful to do a “pit detox” first, especially if your pits are clogged from years of commercial deodorant use. Personally, I use equal parts bentonite clay, water, and apple cider vinegar to make a “paste” and apply to pits for 10-15 minutes then rinse, once daily, for 1-2 weeks. I have found that over a period of time, this significantly reduces your overall “B.O.” thereby making a natural deodorant much more effective. 🙂
Deodorant is made to order and is approximately 2.5 oz.
